Brussels policymakers\u2019 growing emphasis on creating \u2018European champions\u2019 could lead to firms gaining monopolistic advantages that would ultimately harm the EU economy, warns the new first vice chair of the European Parliament\u2019s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON).<\/strong><\/p>\n Damian Boeselager (Greens\/EFA), co-founder of the European federalist Volt party, told Euractiv in an interview that EU officials\u2019 focus on encouraging\u00a0 firms to \u201cscale up\u201d risks pushing the bloc\u2019s competition policy \u201cin a completely wrong direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
