The New World Order

Dear friends,

I don’t know how you felt watching Trump and Vance tear into Zelenskyi in the White House. I felt disgusted. Saddened. But not surprised. This week made it crystal clear: the Transatlantic Alliance isn’t just weakened—it’s on life support.

Europe, it’s time to brace up. We can no longer rely on the US as a partner. We must defend ourselves, protect our values, and build resilience in this shifting world order. And we have to act fast.

This week, European leaders are meeting in Brussels for an emergency Council session. They’ll discuss how to move forward. The time for “should” is over, we need to get into actions and decisions. That’s why we, as the Volt delegation in Parliament, have sent a letter to all 27 EU leaders.

It’s a 9-Point Action Plan—bold, actionable, and ready to be implemented now. We don’t just lament—we offer solutions. Here’s what we’re pushing for:

FIXING THE EU INSTITUTIONS

1. End the paralysis. The EU’s constant veto system is holding us hostage (yes, Orbán, we’re looking at you). It’s time to trigger Article 7 and strip Hungary of its voting rights until it stops trampling on democracy. Sounds drastic? It’s the only way forward.
2. A real EU Foreign Minister. Instead of a messy choir of 27 voices singing out of tune, Europe needs one strong voice in global affairs. Kaja Kallas—already the EU’s High Representative—is the right person for the job.
3. Time for treaty change. Europe must adapt to a changing world. We need a joint European defence strategy, and we must prepare for enlargement—because the current system is already broken, and it’s not ready for new members.

STRENGTHENING EUROPE’S DEFENCE
No one wants war. But let’s be realistic: in a world full of bullies, Europe must stand its ground. With NATO in crisis, the EU has to step up. That means:

4. Serious investment. We propose issuing EU debt to fund military resources, creating a European DARPA (like the US agency that helped invent the internet), and strengthening regional defence industries.
5. Ukraine must win. We have €200 billion in frozen Russian assets sitting in a Brussels account. Let’s use it to support Kyiv. Belgium could take this step today—what are we waiting for?
6. An EU Army—now. This was the original plan when European unity was first envisioned. It didn’t happen because the US proposed NATO instead. But now, with NATO’s future in doubt, Europe must take control of its own security. We need an independent Command and Control Centre and a legal framework for a joint EU force.

WHEATHERPROOFING THE ECONOMY
Other players aren’t playing by the rules. Instead of sulking or crying for retaliation, let’s take action to secure our wealth and freedom.

7. Get rid of bureaucracy. Regulation is good, but there is too much red tape. We need radical harmonisation—cut barriers, fast-track procedures, and let companies scale.
8. Forge strong alliances. Europe still has friends—let’s work with them. Canada, Japan, Norway, and even the UK are like-minded democracies that share our values. Together, we can form a Coalition of the Willing for trade, technology, and defence cooperation.
9. Keep up in the tech race. We cannot afford to fall behind in AI. Europe must invest in its own AI infrastructure and set clear, enforceable rules for social media. This is how we take control of our digital future.

ACT NOW AND ACT FAST!
If this sounds familiar, it’s because Volt has been pushing for these ideas from day one. But now is not the time for “told you so”—it’s time for bold, constructive action.

Our plan is making waves. It’s being discussed in the media—not just in Brussels, but all the way to Ukraine. Suddenly, colleagues in Parliament are coming to us, eager to talk about how to move forward.

Because we are the party with a plan—if Europe is bold enough to act.

Let’s hope our leaders get the message. If not, Europe risks becoming irrelevant.

Yours,
Damian
